Spring Clean Your Way to a Better Looking Home
If you are thinking about getting your home ready to sell, this is a great time purge of stuff that is collecting dust around the house. Keep in mind that potential buyers want to see a home they can see themselves living in. That is the ultimate purpose of staging.
To stage your home properly here are four tips to follow:
Declutter.
You want buyers to feel they are walking into an airy space, not one that you can’t see your walls. This is a good time to edit what you have. Decluttering not only helps you move less in the long-run, but you can also sell for extra cash or donate to someone in need. I suggest starting with the items you don’t want to move first. If necessary use a friend’s house, storage units or P.O.D. to store access items.
Neutralize.
To appeal to the masses, the dark walls and pink carpet probably won’t do. Try to change the less and brazenly different colors in your house. While white is neutral, it also reminds people of hospitals. Try to warm the house up a bit with colors that are both neutral and welcoming. Here are some suggestions on paint colors for wall from Benjamin Moore.
Curb Appeal.
Maximize curb appeal by mowing your lawn at all times, all corners edged, and any plants that are overgrown are trimmed. It is a simple way to clean up the look of your home. Consider retouching trim too if necessary. It is also important to declutter outside too. Make sure hoses are wrapped up, pots not being used are way, etc.
Compare.
Inventory properties that have sold in your neighbor within the last six months. Compare their features to yours and find out what they did to stage their house. If you are not sure, ask. Both realtors and homeowners are happy to share.
These are just a few ideas. I have plenty more that I would love to share with you. For more information or questions about staging your home, please feel free to call or email.
